Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse Charges

Newport News, VA—Darrell Walter Holmes, age 38, of Chicago, Illinois, pleaded guilty today to two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child under the age of twelve.  Dana J. Boente, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States District Judge Robert Doumar. 

Holmes was indicted on November 12, 2008 by a federal grand jury on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Sentencing has been set for August 10, 2009. Holmes faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

According to the statement of facts filed with his plea agreement, Holmes was stationed in Japan with the Air Force from 1999 – 2002. During this time period he made his 6-year-old stepdaughter sodomize him on two occasions. 

This case was investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa R. McKeel is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
