Virginia Man Sentenced to 29 Years for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

(Norfolk, VA) –Victor Marcos DaFonseca, 45, of Matthews County, Virginia, was sentenced Wednesday to 29 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a minor. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Bob McDonnell, Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Henry C. Morgan, Jr. DaFonseca plead guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor on May 5, 2006.

According to court documents, the parents took steps to protect the minor after they learned of a possible inappropriate relationship between the minor and DaFonseca. Law enforcement examination of a cell phone given to the minor by DaFonseca revealed sexually explicit pictures of the minor and DaFonseca. DaFonseca was initially released on bail, but he continued to contact the minor and his bond was revoked by Magistrate Judge Tommy E. Miller on February 21, 2006. He has remained incarcerated since the bond revocation.

This case was investigated by the Matthews County Sheriff’s Department, the Computer Crime Section from the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Special Assistant United Sates Attorney Rusty McGuire and Assistant United Sates Attorney Lisa McKeel prosecuted the case for the United States.
