Fort Eustis Soldier pleads guilty to Receipt of Child Pornography

(Newport News, VA) - Clint Manuel McVey, a soldier stationed at Fort Eustis, plead guilty Tuesday to one count of receipt of child pornography in violation of federal law. Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced that McVey will be sentenced on January 30, 2007, by United States District Judge Rebecca B. Smith. McVey faces a minimum mandatory term of imprisonment of 5 years and a maximum sentence of 20 years.

According to court documents, between June 1, 2005 and December 16, 2005, McVey received 17 movies containing child pornography. Investigators with the Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified McVey when he was attempting to share a video containing child pornography. They alerted agents with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command at Fort Eustis. A search warrant was issued and agents from the Criminal Investigation Command seized McVey’s computer. An analysis was conducted by the Defense Computer Forensics Laboratory, and 17 movies containing child pornography were found. Upon being questioned by agents with the Criminal Investigation Command, McVey admitted he downloaded child pornography beginning in June 2005.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa R. McKeel and Special Assistant United States Attorney Russell E. McGuire of the Virginia Attorney General’s Office prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.
